Hughes Health & Rehabilitation

Caring for loved ones, family style

The State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health is committed to taking critical steps to ensure nursing Home residents are protected from Communicable diseases, including Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19). To prevent the spread of Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) in healthcare facilities, specifically Chronic and Convalescent Nursing Homes and Rest Homes with Nursing Supervision, effective immediately, the State of Connecticut, Department of Public Health is directing that all Chronic and Convalescent Nursing Homes and Rest Homes with Nursing Supervision impose restrictions on ALL visitors except when a current health state (e.g. end-of-life care) is in question. This restriction will remain in effect until further notice.

Most people just call us Hughes.

That's because since our founding in 1961, we have treated everyone like family, from those who come to us for care, to those of us who provide the care.

Hughes is dedicated to providing quality care for those with chronic illness, as well as those needing convalescence or rehabilitation. Our care is provided within an interdisciplinary team framework which stresses receptivity to the total care needs of the resident

Many of the caregivers of Hughes Health and Rehabilitation gathered on the front lawn on a sunny spring afternoon to salute the team members who give outstanding care to the residents of the skilled nursing facility. These staff are just some of the “Heroes behind the Masks” who work tirelessly caring for the sick and elderly residents.

Signs held by staff wearing personal protective equipment give thanks to community friends, resident families, and fellow teammates for the support they have shown during these difficult times. It truly takes a village to sustain the people in the care of the workers at long-term care facilities. During the photo shoot, drivers passing by waved and beeped their horns in support.

Hughes Health and Rehabilitation is a family owned and independently operated located at 29 Highland Street in West Hartford and has been serving the town since January of 1961.

Hughes has partnered with the National Safety Council and Women's Choice Award to promote safety for people of all ages. Please view this important video, "Safe For Life." Click Here to Watch

On behalf of the Hughes family of caregivers, I am pleased to welcome you to our website and our home.

When Dr. Eugene Flaxman opened the doors to Hughes in 1961, he worked diligently to ensure that the spirit of family became the method of operations here. More than 50 years later, our founder's vision is still exemplified by the way we treat people at Hughes -- from our residents and their families to our co-workers and community.

The mission at Hughes is to provide health care services in an environment where caring makes the difference. Our method of achieving that is simple: We care for loved ones family style.

As you explore our website, our family approach to caring will be evident. The choice to have a loved one cared for in a skilled nursing facility is never an easy one. But we sincerely hope that the information you obtain on this website will provide you with the comfort and assurance that we will care for your family member in the same way that we would our own.

Welcome to Hughes.
